8 Things you MUST know about your carpeting before it's too late
If you want to keep your investment lasting longer than expected you need to know this about your carpet
1.Carpet CAN be a healthier option for your flooring
Your carpeting is like a furnace filter, as the dust and allergens float around your house, your carpet will grab onto those particles and trap them into the fibers preventing them from going into your lungs. With hard surface flooring particles blow around simply by walking across the surface and putting them into the air. When you vacuum frequently and periodically have them professionally cleaned, your carpet will provide a healthier living space for you and your family.
2. Carpet will keep your energy cost lower
Your carpet and padding are great insulators. They help keep the air cooler in the summer, and also keeps the heat in for the winter. Not only will it keep the heat in, your feet will be warmer.
3. Carpet and padding have a specific resiliency factor
Have you ever wondered why after moving your furniture there are indentations? The fibers and padding have a spring back number; it's pounds per square inch. Have you heard of 6, 8, 10 pound padding? That's not how heavy it is, it's how many pound per sq. inch before it doesn't spring back to it's original shape. Carpet has that same type of measurement. In choosing new carpet you should to know this factor to determinate quality.
4. Not all carpet is Stain Master
When carpet is manufactured, about 20% of it's fibers are not dyed. This allows for other colors to set into the fibers such as Kool-Aid, wine, blood, and pet stains. Stain Master carpeting blocks the remaining 20% so stains won't set in. If you don't have Stain Master Carpeting applying a carpet protector will also block the remaining 20% of the fibers.
5. Carpet must be installed correctly if you want them to last long
Annoying ripples are a sign your carpet is not installed properly. If not corrected by re-stretching this will create deterioration of your carpet very fast. The backing of the carpet will start to separate causing the fibers to come loose and fall out. The carpet may also roll up after deep cleaning.
6. Don't use a rental carpet cleaner from your local grocery store
Not only is it bulky to get home and back, it takes a long time to use and can be frustrating, it will actually ruin your carpet. The machine does not have the power to extract the soap. The soap will attract more dirt than what was originally there, causing the fibers to get scratched and ware much quicker. It may look great right after you are finished, but your carpet will look and feel much dirtier faster after you've just spent so much time doing it yourself.
7. Carpet is dyed with a hot acidic dye
Why does this matter? These are the type of spills that re-dye your carpet: pet urine, depending on the diet or anxiety, may be acidic and warm, coffee or tea is hot and acidic, hot meals my be acidic; a carpet protector will prevent these types of re-dying. The difference between a spot and a stain is a spot can be cleaned and a stain is re-dyeing of the carpet.
8. Carpet is much safer than hard flooring
Spilling liquid on your carpet won't make it slippery. Carpet provides traction, where as hard flooring can create hazardous conditions for people and pets alike.
